The much publicised conviction of G4S Cash Solutions (UK) at the start of September 2016 for failing to protect its workers from the risk of Legionnaires’ disease, saw them receive a substantial £1.8 million fine.
The size of this fine could in part be due to the new health and safety sentencing guidelines– which see the turnover of the organisation being taken into account when calculating the size of the fine – in a bid, “to bring the message home to the directors and shareholders of offending organisations.”
